Uniqum is the name of Gudrun’s new product label for design crafted with extra love and care. The unique products are exclusively designed by Gudrun herself – from the brain, via the heart, through the hand to the brush. We hope you are also looking forward to seeing the Uniqum family grow. “Mandvi” linen dress
“Mandvi” linen dress

Mandvi
Unveiling our latest UNIQUM arrival*! The Mandvi dress is richly embellished with embroidered detailing and yarn-dyed stripes. Gudrun has created a relaxed-fit, button-through dress with a clean, crisp silhouette, three-quarter sleeves, inset front pockets and fabric-covered buttons. The dress is cut from 100% linen, made from dew-retted flax. Dew-retting is a natural process that uses minimal water, no chemicals, and lets the sun and dew do the work. Like all our UNIQUM- items, Mandvi has been designed exclusively by Gudrun herself – from the first watercolour painting to the finished product from our skilled suppliers.

Calcutta jacket
Our latest UNIQUM treasure is a jacket with a rich design of printed and hand-embroidered birds, flowers, geometric dots and zigzags. It began when Gudrun took her large, yellow painting to Mandeep, a long-standing Indian supplier and friend of ours. The artwork was transformed into an exquisite jacket that adds a dash of dazzle to your unique style like a piece of jewellery. Cut from an organic cotton fabric in a choice of two elegant colourways – sober grey and sunny yellow. As always, exclusively designed by Gudrun herself... paintings to products.

Tie dye tunic & trouser Buij

Buij
When Gudrun was designing Buij trousers and blouse, her focus was on bringing traditional handicraft and modern-day design together in one creation. Both pieces are crafted from gorgeous organic cotton featuring a design made with the tie-dye method. This means the fabric was hand-tied into knots and then immersed in plant-based natural dyes. The shades of blue are produced using a natural dye powder made from the dried leaves of the true indigo plant, Indigofera Tinctoria – a shrub that grows in warm climates. The orange dye is extracted from the golden petals of marigold flowers. There is a whole spectrum of colours that can be obtained from plants and the resulting shades depend on which are used. Working with natural plant dyes also allows us to experiment with different combinations of plants to create new and exciting colours!

In a nutshell – Buij is craftsmanship, sustainability and style all in one. As strikingly exclusive as a true UNIQUM item of clothing should be.

“The design for this dress came together in my watercolour sketchbook where I often collect new ideas when I’m out on my travels. Actually, many of our UNIQUM items started out in my sketchbook. Creating pieces like this one is so inspiring, as it allows me to get more experimental. I can take a mix of fabrics and create a dress composed of different patterns. Organdie combined with voile – appliqued and embroidered designs. I then hand the sketches to the supplier myself and return after a few days to inspect the first samples of the new print. What joy!”
