Jacquards

Jacquard is a technique used in weaving and knitting. We mainly use it as a knitting technique. The Jacquard technique makes it possible to produce sophisticated designs with a wide variety of effects. The technique leaves long loose strands, or floats, on the reverse, but we usually secure them using various methods. The double-face jacquard is one of our favourites. Knitted in double layers, it produces the same pattern on both sides but with the colours reversed. Patterns with multiple colours produce a striped or dotted reverse, rather like a mesh. This has inspired us on occasions to incorporate this eye-catching effect on the face side. Jacquard looms originally used punch cards but nowadays they operate digitally. The Jacquard loom was invented back in the early 1800s by an ingenious Frenchman who gave his name to the machine.
