Knit in organic wool: 100% wool in a lovely lightweight fabric. The solid color is gently felted. The wool is mulesing-free and the yarn-dyeing process is certified to be environmentally friendly. Soft, slightly woolly garments are more sensitive than others. Therefore, even the finest wool may be subject to some pilling after repeated wear. Carefully remove any pilling by hand. We recommend airing out in humid weather or steaming with an iron. As a last option, hand wash cold. Use detergent designed for wool. Stretch and gently reshape while damp. Dry flat. Shrinkage 3-4%. Made in China.

The story of the little striped cardigan

Last fall, a few of us from the company visited one of our factories in Dongguan, southern China. We’ve worked with this family-owned factory for many years. John and his daughter Ming lead the work at the factory and they are our main contacts. Åsa in particular, our knitwear purchaser, is in touch with them often.

Here we are standing in front of the little old factory with John. Meanwhile, a yellow mini car with a Speedpost parcel arrives – maybe from us?

We walk around the factory where many striped red cardigans are being pressed and packed in order to be shipped to us by sea from Hongkong. It was our vice CEO Annie’s first time in China, and her first trip to a factory in Asia.

The factory has big windows overlooking green fields and large buildings off in the distance. In this subtropical climate, we understand that the best place to be when the weather is hot is in the shade of the banana plants outside.

We looked at their wastewater treatment system and the machinery that regulates purification in six processes. The municipality sets up a camera for oversight as soon as the factory receives its water purification certification.

We also visited a spinning mill which was incredibly impressive. It helped all of us understand the enormity of the process required to make each little color of our specially spun yarn.

We also had to wear masks at the spinning mill because of all the fibers whirling around as the yarn is spun.

Since we have a governing body (BSCI) that helps review our factories, we feel confident in both the minimum wage and that the working conditions are good. China is actually not a poor country anymore. A large part of knitwear manufacturing is fully computerized, though many steps are also highly manual. Like crocheting trim around a neckline. These days, legal regulations for water purification are a matter of course in China.

We like mixing figure-fit with more generously cut fashion. That's why we have four different types of tailoring. You'll find information on the different types of fit in the detailed descriptions of each item. The choice of material also influences the amount of movement allowed by a garment. Knits and jersey-knits have more give in them than woven, less stretchy materials. That's why our weaves are often more generously tailored. For you to be as happy as possible with your purchases, we recommend that you spend a few moments taking your measurements and comparing them with our size chart.

Gudrun’s Good Guide
– An entire collection to be proud of.

Our goal is to have as many products as possible produced to meet environmentally friendly standards, not just a small exclusive portion. Environmental awareness has evolved over the decades, wandering in and out of fashion. From the first tentative, almost unfeasible efforts of the 1980s, through our first eco-collection in the 1990s to today, when green is taken for granted.

In the maze of environmental labels, we felt that having an ecolabel of our own could be a simple way for you as a customer to navigate among our collections. In 2008 we developed our Leaf-based system and in 2017 we are updating this system and addingGudrun’s Good Guide.

Soft, lightweight simplicity in elegant knit organic wool. A cardigan to bring wherever you go: in your carry-on across the Atlantic, to pull over your shoulders on a cool summer evening, to wear next to your skin when you’re chilly. Wash by hand – but preferably, hang up to air.
