Knitted organic wool: 100% wool in a lightweight and comfortable knit. The solid-colour variants are lightly felted. The wool is mulesing-free and the yarn dyes are environmentally certified. Soft, slightly woolly garments are more sensitive than others. Therefore, even the finest wool may be subject to some pilling after repeated wear. Carefully remove any pilling by hand. We recommend airing outdoors in damp weather or steaming with an iron. As a last resort, hand wash at 30°. Use detergent designed for wool. Reshape garment while damp and dry flat. 3-4% shrinkage. Made in China.

The story of the little striped cardigan

Last autumn, some of us from the company visited one of our factories in Dongguan in the south of China. We have been working with this family-owned business for many years. John and his daughter Ming are in charge of the work at the factory and are also our contacts. Åsa especially has frequent contact with them as she is our knitwear purchaser.

The factory is quite small and here we are in front of it with John. A yellow mini-car drives up with a speedpost package as we stand there – maybe it’s from us?

We are shown around inside the factory where lots of red-striped cardigans are being pressed and packaged ready to be sent to us by sea from Hong Kong. This was the first time that Annie, our deputy CEO, had been to China and it was her first visit to a factory in Asia.

The building’s massive windows look out onto green fields and large buildings in the distance. The climate here is sub-tropical and we understand how welcome the shade created by the banana plants must be during the hot season.

Our tour included a look at their wastewater treatment system and the machines that control the process in six stages. A camera is set up by the local authorities to monitor the process as soon as the facility has been awarded its wastewater treatment certificate.

We also visited a spinning mill that really is enormously impressive. It makes us all realise that the creation of each little dye in our own specially-spun yarn is a major process.

We also have to wear mouth cover masks inside the spinning mill because there are so many fibres floating around in the air.

Since we have an inspection agency (BSCI) helping us to monitor our factories, we feel certain that the regulations for working conditions and minimum wages are being followed. China is actually not a poor country any more. Much of its production of knitwear is fully computer-controlled, although many manual interventions are also required. Such as crocheting an edging around a neck. The fact that wastewater treatment is required by law in China is obvious nowadays.

We like mixing figure-fit with more generously cut fashion. That's why we have four different types of tailoring. You'll find information on the different types of fit in the detailed descriptions of each item. The choice of material also influences the amount of movement allowed by a garment. Knits and jersey-knits have more give in them than woven, less stretchy materials. That's why our weaves are often more generously tailored. For you to be as happy as possible with your purchases, we recommend that you spend a few moments taking your measurements and comparing them with our size chart.

Gudrun’s Good Guide
– A whole collection to take pride in.

We aim to have as many of our products as possible produced in an environmentally-friendly way, not just a limited and exclusive line. Over the decades, environmental awareness has evolved and gone in and out of fashion. From the 80s when eco-friendliness was tentative and virtually impossible, through the 90s when we launched our first organic collection, to today when green choices are obvious.

In the forest of eco-labelling systems, we felt that having our own label would make it easier for our customers to find their way around our collections. So, in 2008 we introduced our own eco-labelling system, which we called our Leaves label, and in 2017 we will be updating our labelling system and Gudrun’s Good Guide.

Soft and lightweight simplicity in fine-knit organic wool. A cardigan to wear for all occasions. Bring it in your transatlantic hand luggage to wear directly against your skin any time the temperature dips. Hand wash, or ideally, hang out to air in the open.
