Block printing is one of the oldest printing techniques in existence, and we are delighted and proud that this cultural heritage forms part of our Christmas collection. It brings you simple-yet-elegant patterns and borders on snug cotton and wool styles in a warm colour palette.
Becoming a seasoned block printer requires many years of practice in handling wooden blocks, and a trained eye for how the pattern needs to come together. Blocks have a maximum side length of about 20 cm to ensure the printer can handle them with ease. The pattern is often initially printed to form lines to facilitate the adding of new colours later on. Block-printing’s signature characteristic is its handcrafted quality. A manifestation of skilful craftsmanship, it ensures that every print is unique, which gives the technique its particular charm.
