“My city home is filled with patterns and layers of colour,” says Gudrun. The kitchen walls are glazed in warm, sunlit tones. An old folding table, bought years ago for next to nothing, is dressed with a beautifully patterned blue tablecloth. The lightweight voile curtain with the same design lets light softly filter in. Golden sunflowers decorate the wall and table – a painting that Gudrun did years ago, and fresh blooms from her local market.

Gudrun’s botanical designsEach woven mat begins as a watercolour painting. A striped base is woven first before the design is embroidered onto the surface. Because the mats feature a rich palette of colours, variations naturally occur and every mat is beautifully unique. It is craftsmanship at its most artistic.

Colourful dreamsGudrun’s south-facing bedroom has a generous balcony and gets lots of natural light, making its walls the ideal canvas for intense ultramarine. An embroidered cotton rug and a reversible quilted bedspread add the texture and comfort she wants.
