A green thread for 50 years

 

From 1974 to present day – half a century of unique designs, exciting trips and fantastic mile stones. Enjoy reading this chronological summary of our company’s colourful history.

 
1974

After some years as a freelance designer, Gudrun starts producing her own-label fashions as “designed and coordinated active leisure wear”.

 
1976

First store opens on Regeringsgatan in Stockholm. Mail order sales begin.

 
1981

We start selling our products in Germany, from Gudrun’s sister’s kitchen in Rosstal, Bavaria.

 
1983

We set up sales operations in California, USA.

 
1992

India becomes a fantastic new manufacturing country for us. The first organic wave using undyed organic cotton.

 
1993

Gudrun is voted Business Woman of the Year in Sweden.

 
1997

The webshop is launched in three languages: Swedish, German and English.

 
2000s

We open one new store each year. In Malmö, Stockholm, Copenhagen, Oslo, Hamburg and Stuttgart.

 
2007

Gudrun is awarded H. M. The King’s Medal.

 
2011

We celebrate 35 years with major fashion shows in Stockholm and Shanghai. Gudrun’s first Facebook page is launched.

 
2013-2016

The touring exhibition about Gudrun’s design work starts at the cultural heritage museum Kulturen in Lund. Gudrun is awarded ELLE Sweden’s Sustainability Prize and a number of business awards. The book “My Portfolio” is published.

 
2018

We win the “Best international growth” category in the regional heat of the Swedish Entrepreneur of the Year awards. An exhibition and a fashion show are staged at Edsvik Art Gallery in Stockholm and at the American Swedish Institute in Minneapolis, USA.

 
2020

The acclaimed 2018 exhibition is given new life at the National Nordic Museum in Seattle, USA.

 
2019

The Gudrun Sjödén Foundation is set up to support global textile development.

 
2022

Gudrun takes up the position of Chair of the Board.

 
2024

We celebrate 50 years!
