Coimbatore is a vibrant Indian city where all kinds of textiles are produced, woven, printed and knitted. Gudrun visited this bustling hub before diving into the work of creating the autumn collection. To see first-hand how everything is crafted both in small workshops and on a large scale. Back in Sweden, Gudrun sketched endless checks and stripes. Blending soft watercolours with crisp lines drawn with colouring pencils. The sketches look very similar to the final woven fabric. Such a simple, satisfying process. Small-scale mills bring the sketches to life by creating bit looms – sample swatches that offer a first glimpse of the finished weave. These mills handle smaller runs, weaving the beautiful lengths of fabric. Unlike large orders for hundreds of metres, which would go to giant factories with fully automated looms. We’re talking 2,000 metres of fabric for every single colourway. But we are not weaving such quantities for our Coimbatore collection.
Checked clothes

Checks from every corner of the globe come together in a versatile garment you can never have too many of! Collaborating with such passionate craftsmen has been an absolute delight. Of course Gudrun’s inspiration is drawn from the world’s many colours and patterns.
Checks come alive in Coimbatore
In India, amazing check patterns are handwoven by masterful artisans on traditional looms. Inspired by this, we’ve gone all out to create an exciting lineup of woven checks for this collection. We have created playful variations of colour and expression by juxtaposing large checks with smaller ones. A cosy alpaca-blend cardigan – naturally featuring a check pattern – and a delightful dotted jersey top are some of the fresh styles. And don’t miss our universal kimono – one of our absolute favourites over the years.
