Washing & care recommendations
By taking care of your clothing, you can use it for a longer time. Here are some tips on the best ways to care for your favorite Gudrun garments and lengthen their lifespan. This involves everything from washing and storing to how to mend and recycle your garments. Create a sustainable wardrobe by washing clothing less, airing more, repairing when needed, and selling or giving away clothing you no longer wear.
Take pride in your cherished ‘vintage’ Gudrun garments!

Washing instructionsThe best approach for the environment and for your garments is to wash them as little as possible.
Lengthen the lifespan of your clothes by airing them out and removing small spots by hand. Here are a few more tips for the best ways to care for your clothing:
• Spritz the garment with water to restore shape and reduce wrinkling.
• Wash at a lower temperature or steam clean when possible.
• Garments with embroidery, sequins or delicate surfaces should be washed inside out or in a delicates wash bag.
• Velour garments should be tumble-dried on low/medium heat to retain softness.
• Down garments should be tumble-dried on low heat with at least three tennis balls until completely dry.
• Avoid dry cleaning as much as possible.
• Always follow the specific washing instructions for the garment – you can find them in the garment and on our website.

Care instructionsTo preserve the shape of your knitwear and jersey garments, always store them flat. These garments tend to stretch in length after washing and if hung on a hanger.
Some garments have ribbon loops sewn into the shoulder seams to allow them to be hung on a hanger – be sure to use these! All garments with buttons have a spare button attached to the care label – save it in case you need it in the future.
Even the finest wool fabrics may have some pilling after repeated use – but don’t worry! Carefully remove with a fabric shaver or pilling comb.

Shoes and bagsLeather, suede and nubuck shoes and bags deserve a little extra care. We recommend having stubborn stains professionally cleaned.
To protect your favorites, treat with a water and stain repellent spray, especially before the first use. For leather shoes, light soiling is easy to brush away with a shoe brush. Then apply shoe polish to reinvigorate the leather and restore shine.
For suede and nubuck products, use a suede brush to carefully refresh the surface and help remove any stains, so that the material retains its nice texture.

Wool cleaning instructionsWe do not use so-called superwash treatments; rather, our wool garments retain their natural properties.
Wool shrinks mainly due to mechanical action, not due to heat. It is therefore good to always hand-wash wool garments, or to wash cold in the washing machine set to the wool-wash cycle. When washing is complete, carefully squeeze out the water and roll the garment in a terry towel to remove excess water. Re-shape the garment while damp and lay flat to dry. If possible, we recommend airing or steaming your wool garments to avoid washing too often.

Linen washing instructionsLinen is a durable material that needs the right care to retain its fantastic properties. Wash on a gentle cycle and use a mild detergent.
Linen and linen blends can be washed warm. Shake or air out sensitive products, such as curtains, instead of washing them. Wash undyed and dyed linen separately. Avoid tumble drying. Dry linen hanging up and iron on high heat.

MendMend holes in garments to extend their lifespan. Turn a small hole or stubborn stain into a mere memory with an adhesive repair patch or beautiful embroidery.
You can also try mending with the Japanese embroidery technique known as sashiko. Sashiko involves sewing simple running stitches in different patterns. White cotton thread on blue hemp fabric is the traditional choice, but of course, you can get creative and embroider designs with thread in any color.

Renew with embroideryIt is always a joy to add your own touch to a garment or interior decor detail. Embroidery is a wonderful way to renew and repair older textiles.
All you need is fabric, an embroidery needle, embroidery thread, scissors and a pattern – unless you want to embroider free-hand. Let your creativity flow and choose colors and designs that reflect your style. We love to find inspiration from nature and animals – flowers, birds and meandering foliage create a beautiful, vivid look.

Wear out your garmentsThink sustainably: take care of what you own and wear it until it wears out.
We strive to create garments that are well made and timeless in their design, with the aim of giving them lasting value. Whenever you update your wardrobe, be sure to recycle old clothes. Use them in sewing projects, give them away, or sell them – for example, through our stores. As a final option, bring garments to a textile recycling center so that the fibers can be used again.
