Mix and match

How do you master the art of mixing and matching clothes? The question is as old as the art of clothing itself! Of course there are no right answers, but here are a few tips to help you along the way. As you may know, we love to wear clothes in layers. For optimal comfort, start with a lightweight, breathable layer like a turtleneck in our popular Lyocell/Elastane jersey, or a delicate organic cotton underskirt. Then add more pieces to harmonize with the season and the weather. In winter, a knit piece like a wool cardigan, and a coat or parka may be best. In summer, we recommend layering pieces in cool, airy fabrics like linen, satin and organic cotton.

When it comes to colors and what colors of clothing go together, we advocate a liberal approach. Color is joy, so why limit yourself? Mix a variety of colors to create exciting contrasts that make a statement. For a more refined look, consider elegantly combining natural shades of gray, white, black, or brown. Your outfit will gain versatility while maintaining a delightful harmony.

What about patterns - can they really be mixed and matched? Of course they can! The trick is to choose patterns in the same colorway. As long as you do so, you can mix and match large and small patterns, dots with stripes or flowers, and knits with jersey. Another tip is to tie the look together with a statement scarf that adds a stylish twist. For example, cinch a solid-colored scarf at your waist, or opt for the timeless draped look around you neck, if that is your personal style. Lastly, consider elongating your silhouette with a solid-colored piece, perhaps in the form of a slip dress or a slip.

Accessories are the icing on the cake, don’t you agree? When putting together an outfit, it’s all about the big picture. And no style is complete without the crowning touch! In this case, of course we mean accessories. Consider a gorgeous scarf, a cap, a bracelet or necklace, or a pair of tights in a fun color or pattern. When deciding what accessories to wear, the key is to keep the total look in mind. What are the colors of my clothes, should I coordinate them, or should I go for contrast? Is there a pattern in the piece that i can pick up and enhance? These are all important questions to ask when choosing accessories.
