ANNA ANCHER – the artistry of Nordic light

The intense light on the narrow spit of sandy beach between the Skagerrak and the Kattegat seas inspired Impressionist Anna Ancher to paint with beautifully nuanced colors. We’ve represented that in this series with light and dark garments with little details, like pretty cross-stitching on rustic linen. These understated pieces are paired with radiant shades of red for a surprising note of intensity and warmth. The styles include the artist’s blouse and its predecessor, a classic artist’s smock, both in silhouettes inspired by the turn of the last century. History meets the present here as Impressionistic pastel strokes are translated into digital prints, preserving that hand-created feel on a lovely voile fabric.
